RAANI [rah-knee] (www.raanimusic.com) is a solo pop singer-songwriter from Edmonton, AB. Her sound is influenced by artists such as Ariana Grande, Beyonce and Khalid. Consistent themes in RAANI’s music are self empowerment and gender equality.
RAANI just released her single ‘Chains.’ She wrote this song with Troy Samson and Tea Petrovic in Vancouver, BC. The song is produced by Troy Samson (MadLucky Music), mixed by Adam Royce (ARWR Music Group) in Toronto, ON and mastered by Phil Demetro (Lacquer Channel Mastering) in Toronto, ON.
‘Chains’ is about doing what is best for you instead of what other people think is best for you or what they think you ‘should’ be doing.
RAANI’s single ‘All My Ladies’ received a nomination for R&B/ Soul recording of the Year at the 2016 Edmonton Music Awards and received a placement on Spotify’s American Top 40 playlist. She was inspired to write this female empowerment anthem after watching the BBC documentary ‘India’s Missing Girls,’ which shed light on India’s female gendercide issue and featured Aarti for Girls, a shelter in Kadapa India for abandoned children.
RAANI co-wrote ‘All My Ladies’ with Carmen Lucia Vachon in Edmonton and it was produced by Justin ‘Dunna’ McDonough (Resonate Music) in Edmonton. Terry Tran (The Audio Department) mixed and mastered the track in Edmonton as well.
Her single ‘Be Your Friend feat. Chips’ received a nomination for Best Pop Recording of the Year at the 2015 Edmonton Music Awards. RAANI’s music video for this track was featured on Arts Talk on Shaw TV Edmonton for two weeks (Link to 'Be Your Friend' music video). One of the highlights of this release was a fan-made cover music video of ‘Be Your Friend’ (Link to fan-made cover video).
Both ‘All My Ladies’ and ‘Be Your Friend feat. Chips’ were added to a variety of online radio stations and received regular features on K94.5 (Moncton, NB).
“RAANI is incredibly hard working and passionately driven to succeed as a performing artist. She has a bright future ahead and is a great representative for the City of Edmonton, Province of Alberta and, indeed, all of Canada in the arts community.”
